Byago Diouf – the shortest SEEDS Academy player at 6'2'' – was considered a long shot, because of his height, for a scholarship in America. He is motivated by a commitment to help his impoverished family and unwell mother, who he considers his best friend. His mother, a former basketball player in Senegal whose career was derailed by family obligations, desperately needs medical attention to treat an ailing heart and an unknown condition that has left herparalyzed on one side of her body.

Diouf, now a junior and starting point guard at Carroll College, has helped the Fighting Saints to the top of the NAIA's Frontier Conference. A recent article titled "Diouf's Day" appeared in the Helena Independent Record lauding his efforts.
